Selecting Document Layers for an Index
Newer versions of the Index Builder software allow you to select which document layers to process when creating an index. This feature allows creating completely separate indexes from index entries assigned to frames in the same document.
To apply this feature, assign one set of index entries to frames on one layer of a document (which will be referenced by Index Builder as the Auxiliary Layer), and assign another set of index entries to frames on all other layers of the document.
To designate which layer is the Auxiliary Layer, enter that layer’s name in the Index Builder Preferences dialog, which displays a setting named Auxiliary Layer Name, as shown below:
Note the name that you enter here must be the name of an actual layer in the document(s) that Index Builder will be processing. If an Index Builder process cannot locate a layer of that name, then all layers will be processed by Index Builder.
Then, during Page Proof and Build Index operations, you can select which Layer to process, as shown below:
This setting provides the following options:
All -- will process all layers, this is the default setting.
Aux Layer Only -- will process only one layer, the layer indicated in Index Builder Preferences as the Auxiliary Layer.
Ignore Aux Layer -- will process all layers except the layer indicated in Index Builder Preferences as the Auxiliary Layer.
